19.03.2020

We hope that all our clients are keeping safe and well during these strange and unprecedented time. No doubt your inboxes have been swarmed with emails about Covid 19 and it can be quite difficult to sift through these emails and find the appropriate information as it may apply to you and your business.

As previously mentioned, here at Ecovis DCA, we are very much open for business, with our staff fully operational and working remotely, so any request or queries you may have will be answered in a timely and professional manner.

We are, as always, committed to bringing you useful and important updates that may directly apply to your business and below we outline further details on Revenue’s new Unemployment Payment:

The Government have introduced a specific new unemployment payment for this specific crisis entitled the ‘COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment’ which will be made available to any employees temporarily or permanently laid off as a result of this crisis. The payment will be paid for a period of 6 weeks and will be a payment of €203 per week and the usual restrictions for Jobseekers Benefit will not apply to this payment. If you are permanently laid off, you will be required to apply for Jobseekers Benefit during this time.

The Government are also setting up a refund scheme for this payment. This scheme asks business owners to continue paying their staff at least the minimum €203 per week, which will then be refunded to them. Full details of this scheme are due to be published in the coming days.

There has been some confusion over the available payments, and it is important to note that the above payment is entirely separate to the other existing payment option entitled the ‘Illness Benefit for COVID-19 absences. This payment is available to those workers who have been advised to self-isolate by a doctor or who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. These workers can apply for an enhanced Illness Benefit of €305 per week. To avail of this payment, the individual must be confined to their home or a medical facility.

We hope that this information will be of benefit to you and your business. Remember that Ecovis DCA are still always available to offer advice and guidance on any business or financial matters, so please do not hesitate to reach out.
