Malta Budget 2017- A Concise Summary Prepared by ECOVIS Malta

On 17th October 2016, the Honourable Minister for Finance, Edward Scicluna, presented the budget for 2017 at the House of Representatives in Valletta. The budget focused on integral national issues such as social welfare, sustainability and enterprise incentives and measures. A few of the most innovative introductions and measures were the removal of tax applicable on gain on the disposal of shares listed on the Malta Stock Exchange by persons who held the shares prior to listing, the facilitation of the transfer of family businesses through a reduction on stamp duty, the exemption from income tax by certain pensioners and the extension of grant schemes for installation of PVs, solar water heater and other energy sources.
