On the 4th of November 2014 our colleagues from Ecovis Clark Jacobs in Australia, Mr. Heath Stewart and Mr. Scott Hogan-Smith held a presentation about commercial and tax issues for businesses establishing in Australia at our office in the Galaxy Soho.

To summarize the current economic climate in Australia is difficult due to the Australian economy transitioning out of a mining investment boom. However underlying fundamentals such as economic growth, low inflation, low interest rates and low unemployment remain strong. The most important decision an investor needs to make is the type of structure they wish to use for their investments. There are a number of different options available. An Australian company is straight forward to form and can be done in less than 24 hours as long as all information on directors and shareholders is available.Important is also to understand complexities of the Australian taxation system as each level of government has specific taxation powers.

The Government has also proposed a new premium investor visa or PIV program which will apply to foreign nationals who have at least AUD$ 15,000,000 to invest. While details are still being finalized the PIV Program will provide a path to residency after only 1 year with nominations done by the Australian Trade Commission. In cooperation with Ecovis Clark Jacobs we heard a lot of valuable advice, hints and practical examples on the various topics as investing in real estate, significant investment visa, taxation basic in Australia, requirements for establishing an entity etc.
