Emergency aid from the federal government for small businesses and individual self-employed people

The federal government has decided to provide emergency aid to small businesses and individual self-employed people. After all, the current crisis is greatly affecting small businesses and individual self-employed people. For that reason, the federal government is providing 50 billion euro in emergency aid. The respective federal states are currently implementing this federal decision.
The federal government’s emergency aid programme is directed at small businesses and individual self-employed people. The federal government has allocated 50 billion euro given the fact that these groups have been greatly affected by the current crisis. It is explicitly a subsidy. Individual self-employed people and small businesses do not have to pay this aid back.
North Rhine-Westphalia plans to expand the programme for larger companies with up to 50 employees. We will provide you with more detailed information as soon as specific measures have been established.
We would like to present you with the essentials of the federal corona emergency aid. We would also like to explain what you can prepare now although some federal states‘ aid packages have yet to be specified in detail.

Specific measures of the federal emergency aid

Corona emergency aid is designed to help companies overcome acute liquidity bottlenecks. The aid therefore mainly concerns ongoing operating costs such as rent, loans for production facilities and leasing rates. The federal government’s decision includes the following measures:

  • Companies with up to five employees will receive a one-time subsidy of up to 9,000 euro for three months
  • Companies with up to ten employees will receive a one-time subsidy of up to 15,000 euro for three months

Our assessment

The federal government has decided to provide emergency aid to small businesses and individual self-employed people. The respective state councils are now responsible for the specific approval of applications. That is why some states have already decided to create such implementations. In NRW, we expect a decision to be made very soon.
You need the following documents to apply:

  • Commercial registry statement or comparable documents,
  • Business registration,
  • Copy of your identification card,
  • Wage records or equivalent documents for employed personnel/employees,
  • „Declarations concerning received or applied for ‚de minimis allowance'“ form.

Documents required by a respective federal state or council may vary. These documents, however, will form a solid foundation for you. We are providing this information largely for mandated people. We kindly ask everyone else to call us so that we can review the application together with you.
